Jewish Cultural Center Rua da Judiaria
THE JEWISH CULTURAL CENTER – JUDIARIA DE LISBOA was founded by Luciano Waldman in 2019 with the aim of safeguarding, valuing and promoting the material and immaterial Jewish-Portuguese heritage.
Having the headquarters of the Cultural Center in one of the buildings on Rua da Judiaria, the old Jewish quarter of Alfama, was one of the main motivations in developing the project, reviving and reclaiming the space to tell and promote the rich Portuguese Jewish history.
Throughout this process of promoting Sephardic culture and Portuguese Jewish history, consolidate the Rua da Judiaria as an important culture corridor in the city of Lisbon.
The initiative includes a series of special actions and free activities for:
1- Ensure the preservation, valorization, and promotion of the Jewish-Portuguese cultural heritage.
2- Promote and disseminate Sephardic culture.
3- Promote cultural and artistic renewal through research, creation, and experimentation.
4- Combat social exclusion through a diverse cultural offering with the participation of different social groups from communities and countries.
5- Educate and engage new audiences, democratizing knowledge with the active participation of different Portuguese and foreign communities from a perspective of plurality, citizenship, and democracy.
6- Create partnerships and collaboration networks to enhance and diversify knowledge in schools, universities, museums, and other organizations.
7- Maintain and preserve existing monuments on Rua da Judiaria.
8- Host temporary exhibitions of artists and diverse institutions related to the theme.
