Our route covers Lisbon’s main historic areas, where most of the city’s monuments are located. Our itinerary includes: Graça neighborhood, Castle Hill, Alfama district, Baixa, Rossio Square, Chiado, Lower Chiado, and Belém.

Traveling by car allows us to access places that would be challenging to visit on foot. Lisbon is famous for its beautiful hills, but exploring them all in one day by walking can be quite demanding!

About our route:

We begin our journey at the Nossa Senhora do Monte viewpoint, where we’ll enjoy the city’s breathtaking panorama. Here, we’ll discuss the historical context of Lisbon and also Portugal’s Jewish heritage.

From Nossa Senhora do Monte, we will descend towards Portas do Sol, Alfama’s most famous viewpoint. At this spot we will talk about the origins of Lisbon and about the monuments of this neighborhood.

During this part of the tour, we’ll also visit Rua da Judiaria, Lisbon’s last medieval Jewish quarter, and the office of the Jewish Cultural Center.

Between the Jewish quarter and Lisbon’s Commerce Square, we’ll stop at one of a few buildings that survived the great earthquake of 1755. Two archaeological sites of this neighborhood also  illustrate the city’s rich history.

Heading towards Downtown, the heart of the historic area, we’ll pass various monuments before reaching Rossio Square.

At Rossio, we’ll discuss the historical events that shaped Jewish history in Lisbon and explore the square’s monuments.

From São Domingos Square, we’ll continue to Carmo Square, the starting point of the Carnation Revolution. Here, you’ll find the Carmo Convent and the site of the first Jewish quarter.

We conclude our tour in the historical neighborhood of Belém, a monument forthe Portuguese Age of Discovery and maritime expeditions.
