Reverse Tashlich

Reverse Tashlich 2024

The Reverse Tashlich project is one of several activities offered by the Repair the Sea (Tikkun haYam) organization, founded by Rabbi Ed Rosenthal in 2018.

The project aims to encourage Jewish communities to protect and restore aquatic ecosystems by cleaning the shores of rivers, lakes, and seas. Unlike the Jewish ritual of Tashlich, which involves “casting our sins” into the water, participants in Reverse Tashlich work to collect litter from various water resources and contribute to the preservation of marine life.

Since its inception, Reverse Tashlich has spread to several countries across six continents, involving more than 3,000 people in removing “sins” (human waste) from beaches, waterfronts, parks, and marinas in twelve countries.

In Portugal, our first coastal cleanup took place in Lisbon in 2022 and we plan to continue this effort annually.

If you would like to participate in the Reverse Tashlich project or learn more about our activities, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are always seeking new volunteers and partners committed to this important cause.
